Don't Let Heel Pain Ruin Your Summer - - - Are You Suffering from Plantar Fasciitis?

Have a Heel Pain-Free Summer

If you are suffering from heel pain, it may be the result of several problems.  One of the most common causes of heel pain is Plantar fasciitis.  Plantar fasciitis  involves pain and inflammation of a thick band of tissue, called the plantar fascia, that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. The pain from plantar fasciitis usually feels like a stab develops gradually, is most painful at the very beginning of the day, typically affects one foot. Plantar fascia and heel pain affect different people depending on several factors including age, sex, weight, foot shape, types of exercise, occupation and improper shoes. Plantar fasciitis occurs most often in those between the ages of 40 and 60 and is more common in women, thoswe who are overweight, and those with flat feet. Running, dancing, and occupations that require you to be on your feet for long periods of time also increase the risk of plantar fasciitis.

If you are suffering from Plantar fasciitis, you could be pain free before the summer months are gone. Over 90 percent of patients who suffer from Plantar fasciitis recover within a few months.  Moderate treatments include nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, physical therapy, night splints, orthotics, and extracorporal shockwave therapy. Surgery is very seldom used a treatment and is used if the patient is in sever pain and no other methods have been successful.

This nightsplint, pictured at left, has been designed to comfortably hold the foot in a neutral position during sleep, thereby helping to alleviate the morning pain and discomfort associated with plantar fasciitis. This and other products designed to alleviate heel pain associated with Plantar fasciitis are available at our product store at the Advanced Footcare Clinic website.  If you are suffering from heel pain call our office at 419-423-1888 to begin your journey to recovery and pain-free heels.
